According to Indian media reports, Hon Hai and Vedanta, a large Indian multinational group, are planning to become partners with STM, a European chip manufacturer, to participate in the plan of manufacturing semiconductor chips in India. It is reported that the relevant plans will be released as soon as mid-March.

In order to develop the economy and stabilize the supply chain, India announced plans to invest 760 billion rupees (about 62.6 billion yuan) to build a production incentive plan in 2022. India plans to provide incentives with "global competitiveness" for semiconductor, display manufacturing and design industries, and create a "new era" for India's electronic manufacturing industry. India hopes to ensure that there will be no sudden shortage of chips needed in India in the next three to five years, so as to avoid the sharp rise in chip prices in various fields of electronic products, automobiles and high-tech products caused by the shortage.

In February 2022, Hon Hai Group announced the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with Vedanta to jointly invest in the establishment of a joint venture for the manufacture of semiconductors in India. In October of the same year, Vedanta said that Hon Hai and Vedanta jointly planned to build a 28-nanometer 12-inch wafer factory, which is expected to be put into operation in 2025. The initial output will be 40000 wafers per month, and the production will start at full speed next year.

In May 2022, ISMC, the international semiconductor consortium, said that it would invest US $3 billion to build a wafer factory in India, and initially planned to produce 65nm logic chips. It is reported that ISMC is a joint venture between the Next Orbit venture capital fund and the chip manufacturer Gaota Semiconductor, which has been acquired by Intel. Therefore, the above-mentioned wafer factory can also be seen as Intel's layout for Indian wafer manufacturing.

In July 2022, Singapore Investment Group IGSS Ventures said that it would invest 3.25 billion US dollars to build a semiconductor high-tech park in Tamil Nadu, India, including a wafer factory.

In addition to attracting foreign enterprises to invest and build factories, India is also laying out local semiconductor manufacturing enterprises. For example, in 2022, the media reported that Sahasra Semiconductor had invested 7.5 billion rupees to build a memory chip factory, which was the first chip factory built from scratch in India.
