Vishay introduces upgraded infrared receiver to improve ESD resistance and reliability

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced that the infrared remote control applications TSOP2xxx, TSOP4xxx, TSOP57xxx, TSOP6xxx and TSOP77xxx series infrared (IR) receiver modules will be upgraded with the new generation of Cylene 2 IC. The configuration of new IC is designed to ensure the long-term supply of products and shorten the delivery time, which will help designers greatly reduce the power supply current within a wider power supply voltage range, and improve the reliability of ESD and direct sunlight resistance.

The recently released enhanced Vishay Semiconductor receiver can be used for infrared remote control of TV sets, STBs, audio and game consoles, air conditioners and other electrical appliances, as well as industrial automation control, lighting systems and other applications. For the remote control function of these products, the device has enhanced various anti-interference capabilities, such as infrared radiation of fluorescent lamps and RF radiation of Wi-Fi antenna on the circuit board.

The enhanced device can be used by designers to replace the original receiver module in a plug-and-play way. The power supply voltage is 2.0 V to 5.5 V, and the typical power supply current is reduced by 50% to only 0.35 mA, thus extending the battery life of mobile consumer electronic products (such as robot vacuum cleaners). The device improves the reliability, and the ESD resistance reaches 12 kV (human body model). At the same time, it can resist the interference of direct sunlight and improve the performance of outdoor applications, such as garage door light barrier system.

To simplify the design, the receiver integrates the photodetector, preamplifier circuit and infrared filter into monomer epoxy resin molding (TSOP2xxx and TSOP4xxx), Belobog (TSOP57xxx), Panhead (TSOP6xxx) or Heimdall (TSOP77xxx) packages. The carrier frequency of the device is 30 kHz to 56 kHz. Different automatic gain control (AGC) versions can be used for long burst or short burst coding. The receiver complies with RoHS and Vishay green standards, is halogen-free, and has excellent ripple noise anti-interference ability.

The upgraded infrared receiver module can now provide samples and has achieved mass production. The supply cycle is 8 weeks.
