Qualcomm announces cloud software services around its supply chain chips

Qualcomm Qualcomm announced that around its supply chain chip, Qualcomm said on Tuesday that it would launch a paid cloud software service to help companies using its chips monitor goods in the supply chain. According to the report, Qualcomm is the world's largest chip supplier, which can help smartphones connect to mobile data networks. However, the company has used its wireless communication expertise to enter other markets where devices are connected to the Internet, such as cars and factories.

This new service is called Qualcomm Aware. Based on the cooperation with Qualcomm chips, these chips are used as tracking devices for containers, pallets, packages and other parts of the supply chain to help enterprises track the location of their goods and materials.

The report points out that most trackers are manufactured by third parties, but Qualcomm also has some equipment of its own, such as sensors that can be installed on the poles to report whether the poles have fallen in the storm.

Jeff Torrence, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm's intelligent interconnection systems business, said that Qualcomm had shipped hundreds of millions of related chips, and the cost of each chip was usually less than $10.

The software service announced on Tuesday aims to allow Qualcomm customers to program their chips from a central point and send updates to the chips wirelessly. The service also aims to make better use of data from chips.

Jeff Torrence said that Qualcomm's software will be connected to other cloud-based services, such as Microsoft's Dynamics 365 service, which enterprises can use to monitor inventory and supply chain.

Qualcomm has not publicly announced the pricing of this new service, but this represents a driving direction, that is, charging when the chip is sold, and then using the chip to provide cloud-based services after the sale, so as to earn more profits from the chip.
