What are the wiring methods for capacitor banks? A few details to pay attention to

Star and delta connections are commonly used wiring methods for power compensation capacitors. The wiring method of capacitor banks should be selected based on the voltage, safety mode, and volume of the capacitor, usually including triangular wiring and star wiring. When the rated current of the capacitor is consistent with the rated current of the network, triangular wiring should be used; When the rated current of the capacitor is less than the rated current of the network, star connection or series parallel connection can be used, and then star connection can be used. Due to the ability to achieve phase separation compensation and solve the problem of three-phase imbalance, the commonly used wiring method in the company is triangular wiring.

Advantages of triangular connection method:

What issues should be noted when wiring based on the actual application of capacitor banks?

1. Have certain protective equipment

It is best to arrange certain protective equipment for the capacitor bank. In general, transverse differential protection is applicable to capacitor banks using double delta connection method; Zero sequence current maintenance is suitable for large space grouped capacitors; The maintenance of unbalanced neutral current is more suitable for the double star connection method, and the open delta voltage protection is more suitable for the single star connection method.

2. Moderate reactors that can be connected in series

Some power grid systems have large harmonics, which can to some extent be less than the influx of harmonic currents, avoiding various problems and faults caused by internal short circuits in capacitors.

3. The capacitor must be insulated from the ground

When the capacitor is connected to the system, it should be ensured that it is insulated from the ground. For the neutral point non Earthing system, the short circuit capacity protection equipment cannot rely on ground maintenance, and the single phase grounding protection equipment shall be selected when the short circuit single-phase current is large (more than 20A).

4. Ensure sufficient discharge of the capacitor

When wiring or maintaining capacitor banks, it should be ensured that the capacitors are fully discharged to prevent safety accidents. If conditions permit, a voltage free release automatic tripping device can be placed to prevent the formation of closing inrush current and avoid faults such as capacitor bulging, oil leakage, and explosion.
