How to measure the quality of a thermal resistance temperature sensor? What are the characteristics?

Thermal Resistance Temperature Sensor (RTD) is a sensor composed of resistive materials that can measure temperature by inversely proportional resistance values to temperature. RTD is widely used in industries, manufacturing, and aerospace engineering, suitable for monitoring and operating humidity accuracy and precision. The following will introduce the advantages, disadvantages, and characteristics of measuring thermal resistance temperature sensors.

1、 Measure the quality of RTD

A multimeter or other testing equipment must be used to measure the quality of the RTD. Firstly, connect the RTD to a multimeter, and then in future operations, different measurement methods can be selected, including voltage, current, and resistance. Here is how to measure the quality of RTD in each mode:

In voltage mode, connect the known voltage to the RTD and measure the change in voltage using a multimeter. The commonly used voltage is 1mv, and the following is the actual measurement process:

(1) Adjust the detection range of the multimeter to voltage mode.

(2) Connect the two terminals of the RTD to the detection clamp and multimeter, paying attention to the correct connection between the cable and the iron clamp.

(3) Connect the known voltage to the RTD.

(4) Read measurement data. In this mode, the resistance value of the RTD is proportional to the voltage value displayed by the instrument.

In current mode, the resistance of the RTD connects a stable current to both sides to measure voltage changes. The following is the actual measurement process:

(1) Adjust the detection range of the multimeter to current mode.

(2) Connect the two terminals of the RTD to the detection clamp and multimeter, paying attention to the correct connection between the cable and the iron clamp.

(3) Provide a constant current for RTDs, with a common current range of 10ma or 100ma.

(4) Read measurement data. In this mode, the resistance value of the RTD is proportional to the voltage value displayed by the instrument.

In resistance mode, the instrument will measure the resistance value of the RTD and present it. The following is the actual measurement process:

(1) Adjust the detection range of the multimeter to resistance mode.

(2) Connect the two terminals of the RTD to the detection clamp and multimeter, paying attention to the correct connection between the cable and the iron clamp.

(3) Read measurement data. In this mode, the resistance of the RTD is directly displayed on the instrument.

Among the three modes mentioned above, voltage mode has the highest accuracy, while resistance mode has a relatively simple induction effect. In practical applications, different methods can be converted according to different standards.

2、 Characteristics of RTD detection

Compared to most components, RTD can more accurately measure the temperature range with high accuracy. Applied in a digital environment, it can achieve high accuracy of tens of divisions.

Stable performance due to the fact that RTD resistance materials are composed of high-purity resistance materials and are not easily affected by external environments such as magnetic fields and light, the impact on them is relatively small. This ensures the stability and sustainability of RTD in practical applications.

The response speed of RTD is very fast, and when the temperature changes, it can quickly respond and obtain accurate reading values. This means that it can accurately respond to changing temperatures in real-time environments. This characteristic is particularly important in many industries and manufacturing.
